The winners of the 3rd Golden Anchor Turkish Maritime Achievement awards, given by Dünya Gazetesi Perşembe Rotası and the Maritime News Agency in order to recognize achievement in the Turkish maritime sector, were announced at a ceremony on June 27th at the Rahmi Koç Museum.
Minister of Transportation, Binali Yıldırım, made the opening remarks in the ceremony attended not only by the Turkish maritime sector but also leaders from the international shipping community such as Efthimios E. Mitropoulos, IMO General Secretary, Esteban Vicente Pacha, Director of the International Mobile Satellite Organization, Fotis Karamitsos, EU-Directorate General for Energy and Transport and Energy, and Lino Vassalo, President of the Mediterranean Memorandum. In his remarks, Binali Yıldırım noted that the Turkish maritime sector had made significant progress in the last 5 years. Minister Yıldırım said that there was a shortage of qualified personnel in the shipping sector, adding, "The sector and the government are working together to find a solution to this problem. In this regard, I would like to extend my gratitude especially to Arkas for providing such wonderful facilities aimed at training up shipmen”.
Awards in 7 categories
Golden Anchor awards were presented in 7 categories at the ceremony: Regional Passenger Transportation, Ship-Building Industrialists, Ship-Parts Industry, Terminal and Port Operations, Shipping Agency, Ship-Owners Operations, finance for shipping and special awards.
Arkas Shipping, the Turkish representative of world-renowned ship owners, was chosen by the jury to receive the Golden Anchor Achievement award for "Shipping Agency”. Important criteria in the selection of Arkas Shipping was its service quality and the fact that it was not mentioned in complaints filed against agencies with the Chamber of Shipping. Richard Schiferli, General Secretary of the Paris Memorandum, presented the award to Murat Denizeri, General Manager of Arkas Shipping. Mr. Denizeri said, “The shipping companies we represent, the other Arkas companies we work with and obviously our customers deserve a lot of credit for this award. I am honored to receive this meaningful award on behalf of all the Arkas Shipping employees.”
